Books, chooks and quirky-looking nooks

SURROUNDED by chooks and produce, horticulturist Jennifer Stackhouse will talk about her new book, The Contented Chook, in the Krackatinni garden this weekend.
Nanjing Night Net

Krackatinni, which features in the book, is a small, intensely-planted garden brimming with herbs, fruit, vegetables, ornamental plantings – and chooks.

A quirky coop in a quiet corner, created by owners Karel Vine and Anne-Louise Dampney, shows what can be done with old dog kennels, bird cages and fences.

Krackatinni, named for the owner’s fondness for a cold beer at the end of a hard day’s work in the garden, is a living sanctuary combining productivity with simple beauty.

Teas will be available and proceeds from the opening will go to charity.

Details: 3 Azalea Court, Glenmore Park, Saturday, June 23, 10am-4.30pm, and Sunday, June 24, 10am-1pm. Admission $7.
