Help for disabled

Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Carers Jan McLucas has joined people with a disability, families and carers, service providers and advocacy groups at a forum in Penrith on disability services in Australia.

MP for Lindsay David Bradbury said the federal government is delivering $ billion for the first stage of a national scheme to be rolled out across the country from mid-2013.

Eligible people with a disability will have their needs assessed, and will be supported to develop plans for personalised care and lifetime support.

Telephone scams

Fair Trading is warning residents of telephone scams in which the caller claims to be from Fair Trading or other government agencies.

The scammers use offers to help consumers gain access to unclaimed funds, or say they are connected to a government scheme.

The callers say people need to deposit money for administrative purposes, via Western Union.

Fair Trading does not cold call consumers nor does it ask for payment by phone.

Such calls should be reported to Fair Trading on 13 32 20.

Do not provide personal or financial details or make payment unless you can be 100 per cent sure you know who you are dealing with.
