The other is an ambitious, magical fairytale also fitting for a local kayaker who was the inaugural K1 Youth Olympic Champion in 2010, the 2011 Australian Canoeing Athlete of the Year and who, just two weeks ago, won three gold medals at the Junior World Championships.

“I’m excited to represent Australia and it feels great to be an Olympian,” she said. “I’m looking forward to racing, delivering my best and enjoying the moment.

“My goal is to medal but I aim to make the final. As one of the youngest and least experienced this is more realistic.”

Her mother Myriam won bronze in the K1 event at Atlanta in 1996 and her father Richard represented Britain in canoeing at Barcelona in 1992.

¦Fox competes on Monday, July 30. Medal events are Thursday, August 2.
