She’s transformed the lives of families from Sydney’s West by giving children with special needs the education and attention they need. Heather Town, 36, was selected as the NSW state winner in the Family Day Care Australia Educator of the Year awards.

She first became familiar with family day care when she enrolled her son who has special needs with a local educator.

She has bought iPads and special apps to help the children with their learning and she also provides emergency overnight care and works on Saturdays to help those parents who work on weekends.

Benjamin Martin and Gareth Roche, both students at McCarthy Catholic College, have been awarded Australian Defence Force Technical Scholarships.

They were chosen from 2300 applicants.
