Sharpshooter: Lachlan Coote needs fans’ online support to show that Panther pride can’t be defeated. Picture: Jonathan NgTHEY may be out of premiership contention but the Panthers can still claw a tasty title over the rest of the competition.
And it’s all courtesy of sometime golden-point hero Lachlan Coote and his sharp goal-kicking skills.
Coote recently mastered the spiral drop-kick in round two of the Coca Cola Zero Challenges but needs Panthers supporters to jump online, watch his moment of magic and rate the Panthers’ effort as the most impressive of the competing clubs.
“It’d be awesome to top the leaderboard,” Coote said.
“Hopefully, all the Panthers’ fans get on board and vote for me so we can get the win.”
Kicking from 40 metres out, Coote said the secret to perfecting the complex kick was “keeping the eye on the ball and hitting it well”.
“It was pretty enjoyable getting that one over,” he said.
“I wouldn’t say it was heaps difficult; it was obviously hard but it’s not the hardest thing to do.”
Teammate Michael Jennings also attempted the kick for the cameras but was unsuccessful, multiple times.
Coote described Jennings’ attempts as “Terrible, absolutely terrible”.
The dynamic and versatile fullback also shined for the Panthers in round one of the Coca Cola Zero Challenges, where he was the only player to conquer the high bomb catch, which required players to defuse a ball shot 48 metres into the air.
Asked if there was any challenge he couldn’t combat, Coote replied: “Nah, I guess I can do them all”.
