Battlefield – One Boys War, reviewed by Alannah Scott 45M
‘Battlefield – One Boys War’ is a really interesting story. It was based on a true story from 1944. The main character, a boy named Barry, wants to be like his brother Jack and ends up becoming a POW (Prisoner of War). Barry’s family consists of his Mum & Dad and his twin sisters – Margaret and Gwen.
My favourite part of the book is when Jack comes home after many years in a POW camp, but he is really old. His family are super excited to have him home.
I strongly recommend the book for all ages and because it is a true story it is really convincing. It will absolutely grip your mind. Without giving away the end, it can be really sad, but you’ve simply got to read it to believe it.
The Lamington Man, Reviewed by Cameron Davis 45M
This wonderful book is a tale similar to the story of The Gingerbread Man, but changed to being more Australian – The Lamington Man!
It is about a lamington man who comes alive one day and runs around the neighbourhood teasing people because they can’t catch him. He encounters a dog, a cat, a postman and always sings out ‘Run, run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m the Lamington Man’. Finally he meets up with a crocodile and the book has a great end, but you will have to read it to find out the rest.
I would recommend this book to any children older than 2 years old. It is a creative, fun story with fantastic pictures. You should go and buy this book or borrow it from your local library immediately.
The Things with Wings, reviewed by Tailya Fratus 45M
‘The things with Wings’ by Greg Holch is a mysterious novel about a young boy named Newton and a girl named Vanessa. Together, they go on an awesome adventure in the woods of Angel Falls (that’s where they live). After eating some fruit they find on their adventure, Vanessa suddenly turns into a butterfly. When Vanessa returns, she finds a dome filled with all her friends and class mates.
My favourite part is when Vanessa makes a very heart breaking decision in order to try to save her friends. It’s a great book to get your mind really involved because you don’t know what fantastic things will happen next.
I highly recommend this fantastic book to girls 10-13 all over the world. It is a book that is great for either reading independently or having it read to you.
If you want to know if Vanessa and Newton are able to save their friends, I recommend you go and buy this book NOW !!!!!!
