Penrith Valley Concert Band (PVCB) is a community music group established by Ray Gallagher in 1989.
Ray saw the need for a music group that would provide opportunities to young players leaving York
Public School Band for high school where the prospect of their continuing musical development
was uncertain. He instituted PVCB as a junior competition band and under Ray’s guidance
PVCB developed and achieved notable success competing in various eisteddfods, state and national band championships.
The objective of the PVCB is to foster and develop musicians of all ages in Penrith and the
Today PVCB still competes performing a variety of music styles from classical to contemporary
as well as music from popular stage shows. PVCB also perform regularly at Christmas,
Australia Day and Anzac Day celebrations as well as many other community events.
These activities offer opportunities for the musicians to develop and enhance their skills in a
friendly and informative atmosphere as well as contributing to the local community.
The Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre is the current home of the Penrith Valley Concert Band,
rehearsing on a Thursday evening from 6pm until 9:30pm under the baton of Musical Director Emma Farrell.
