The inaugural Hills News M2 Run for the Hills — an 8-kilometre fun run and festival — will be held Sunday, October 7.

The event will run annually as the major fund-raiser for Reach for the Rainbow, a charity established earlier this year by the People’s Choice NSW Woman of the Year and Hills Citizen of the Year, Yvonne Keane.

The run will start and finish on Old Northern Road, Castle Hill, outside Castle Towers with the course winding its way through historic Heritage Park.

Reach for the Rainbow raises funds to support the lives of babies and preschoolers with delays or disabilities by accessing vital early intervention services.

Mrs Keane’s goal is to fund the world’s first “early intervention hub” where families can access comprehensive specialists and early intervention services at little or no cost.

“I am incredibly excited that we have, thanks to our extraordinary partners, been able to bring the event to life,” Mrs Keane said.

“We hope that it very quickly becomes the highlight of The Hills Shire event calendar.”

Head of the Hills M2 and event sponsor Craig Greene said it was great to get behind a grassroots community event in its first year.

“The Run for the Hills provides a great opportunity to see our local community and get outdoors with family, friends or colleagues,” Mr Greene said.

Each participant’s time will be tracked with the data available online after the event.

An all-day festival for families will be hosted by Castle Towers on Old Northern Road, Castle Hill, as part of the event.

General manager and publisher of Fairfax Community Newspapers, Peter Christopher, said the Hills News was fulfilling its charter in supporting this important event.

“Community newspapers tell important stories about organisations like Reach for the Rainbow and we are proud to be media sponsors,” Mr Christopher said.

“On behalf of our local staff, I wish all the participants well in the event and in their fund-raising.”
